Explore the exciting world of the artists' books, creating various scrolling book structures. Participants will be given handouts describing various ways scrolls have been used in books. Students will then be given appropriate instruction in basic book arts binding techniques to make a 3 by 2 inch case bound book with a scroll in place of the pages. This structure, created by Peter and Donna Thomas, features a wooden framework holding a scroll housed in a paper covered case binding. Advanced students may have time to make additional scrolling books or put text in their books and will want to come prepared with extra supplies and short 4-10 word quotes to work with.
