Lauhala weaving is a treasured Hawaiian craft. Mathematical and creative, weaving teaches students patience. Instruction includes the history of lauhala, the preparation of hala leaves (cleaning, softening, stripping leaves, and making a kuka‘a), and weaving techniques. Students create their own fish/star, bookmark, bracelet, fan, coaster, or basket. Additional prepared hala kits are available for purchase from the instructor. Includes supply kit; students should bring scissors and a spray bottle for water.
