Learn the basics of designing, carving and printing with the Hawaiian ‘ohe kapala, or carved bamboo stamp. Possibly influenced in part by the finely designed patterns in modern cloth, Hawaiian kapa makers began creating and using intricately carved bamboo stamps to decorate their kapa. Students will also learn how to prepare the bamboo for carving and will print on a piece of tapa.
