Description:

Join Joyce Blair for an inspiring workshop dedicated to the art of painting clouds. Designed for artists working in oils, acrylics, or gouache. Pastel and watercolor artists are welcome to attend but the techniques discussed will pertain to painting in an opaque medium. This session explores how clouds can bring depth, movement, and mood to your paintings. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, Joyce will share techniques for capturing luminous light, establishing proper values, shaping soft expressive edges, and mixing subtle, atmospheric color—helping you transform the sky into a powerful focal point in your work. 
We’ll begin by exploring the classic blue sky and billowing white clouds, then—if time allows—move into the richer drama of a sunset sky, where color, light, and atmosphere take center stage. We'll all work from the same photo. 
Materials: 

• 2 - 8x10 or 9x12 canvases (whatever size you’re comfortable with) 
• Full range of paint colors (red, blue, yellow, white, burnt sienna, warm and cool gray if you have them. If not, we can mix from the primary colors) 
• Brushes – Bring whatever brushes you’re comfortable using. In addition to your regular brushes you’ll need one softer brush to work on edges. I like using a watercolor brush. 
• A palette knife is handy for mixing colors
