Good Morning LEHS Families:
We hope everyone is having a great week.
Next week, there is no school on Monday because of the Memorial Day Holiday.
Also, to support graduation on Friday June 2, 2023, next week’s schedule will be slightly adjusted.
Schedule adjustments for the Week of May 29, 2023:
Wednesday May 31, 2023 will be a full day: 7:45am to 2:30pm.
Friday June 2, 2023, will be a half day: 7:45am to 12:30pm.
School buses have been adjusted for next week to follow the schedule above. This includes students in our Life Skills program and all other students who take a bus home after dismissal.

Good Morning LEHS Families:
We hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Next week we will have the Math MCAS.
There will be the following schedule changes next week because of the Math MCAS.
All students in the Life Skills Program will report to school on MCAS testing days.
Tuesday, May 16th – Reverse Half-Day
8:00am-11:00am - Grade 10 students take the MCAS Math test and remain in classrooms.
11:30am-12:15pm - Lunch for all students (optional)
12:15pm-12:30pm - Homeroom for all students (9-12)
12:30pm-1:30pm - Block E
1:30pm-2:30pm - Block G
Wednesday, May 17th – Asynchronous day for students not taking the MCAS.
Asynchronous students will have work to complete on Schoology for each class period. Period attendance is based on completion of work on Schoology.
8:00am-11:00am - Grade 10 students take the MCAS Math test and remain in classrooms.
11:00am-12:30pm - Students continue to test until they complete the exam. Students who have completed the exam may be dismissed.

Just a reminder that LEHS has an Open House tonight from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Please check our daily announcements on our website (04-26-2023 Announcement) for details on how to schedule an appointment with your student's teachers.
Below is information around our Saturday Biology MCAS Support Program:
The Biology MCAS Review Group starts THIS Saturday in the Mods from 9am-noon! The program will run for 4 Saturdays. May 6th, 13th, 20th and June 3rd. This is a great opportunity for any student that will be taking the Biology MCAS in June. Each Saturday, new content areas will be reviewed. Snacks will be served and chances to win prizes for all students who attend. Additionally, ask your science teacher about extra credit for attending.

Good Morning LEHS Families:
This is the first week of May and the first week of AP Testing at LEHS.
AP testing is for students who are taking Advanced Placement courses at LEHS.
There are no schedule changes because of AP testing.
Please remind your student to bring their School ID to school each day. If your student does not have a picture ID from the school, please have the student check in with the main office at the end of the day to order a replacement.
Report Cards were emailed to families this past Friday. If you did not receive your student's report card by email, please email your student’s Guidance Counselor or Vice Principal.

Within the rule, if a student has 4 of more Unexcused Absences, the student will receive a D- for their courses. If your student is absent from school, please have our student bring a note to their homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher will then provide the note to your student's Vice Principal. The Vice Principal will review the note and determine if the absence will be excused.

Good Afternoon LEHS Families:
Below are the documents to schedule a meeting with your student’s teachers for our next Open House on May 4, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
For this Open House, you will have the choice to meet with your student's teachers over Zoom (online) or in-person at the school.
To make an appointment for a specific teacher, please click the link for their department (i.e. English, World Language, Science, Math, etc.) within the documents below.
The documents below are in PDF and DOC format.
Each 10-minute meeting can be scheduled for Zoom (online) or in-person. When you schedule an appointment, you will be provided with the choice of Zoom (online) or in-person. Please select one meeting type, Zoom (online) or in-person.

Biology/Ecology Field Trip:
Additionally, the Biology/Ecology class field trip to the Franklin Park Zoo for tomorrow (April 27, 2023) has been canceled. If your child returned a permission slip and $10.00 payment, they will be refunded in class over the next couple of days.

A medical emergency was called at 11:10am today. The medical emergency ended at 11:25am. During the medical emergency, all students and staff were asked to remain in their assigned locations. A staff member at LEHS was sick and was transported to the hospital. The staff member is ok.

The elevator in our field house, next to the gym, is currently not working. We have informed the City Facilities Department to have the elevator fixed. The elevator in our main building near the main entrance is working.

Good Afternoon LEHS Families:
We hope everyone had a great April Break.
This week is a full week of school.
Please remind your student to bring their School ID to school each day. If your student does not have a picture ID from the school, please have the student check in with the main office at the end of the day to order a replacement.
PowerSchools Parent Portal Saturday Events:
We will be hosting three Saturday events at LEHS on May 6th, May 20th, and June 3rd. The events will take place from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
The events will focus on the PowerSchools Parent Portal. PowerSchools is the Data Management System used by the Lynn Public Schools.
Please come by one of the Saturdays. We will have a team at LEHS that will help download the PowerSchools application on your cellphone.
Once you have access to the PowerSchools Parent Portal for your student, you will be able to review your student's daily/class attendance and current grades for the school year.
If you are unable to make it to one of the Saturdays, and would still like access to the PowerSchools Parent Portal for your student, please email our school secretary, Ms. Gonzalez, gonzalezd@lynnschools.org
PowerSchools Parent Portal access codes and steps to download the application were emailed to families a few months ago.

April Break is from April 17, 2023 to April 21, 2023. There is no school during April Break.
Today, April 10th, is the first day of the fourth and final quarter of the school year.
Please have your student bring in any excused absence notes to their homeroom teacher. You may also email your student’s Vice Principal.
As a reminder, please save the date for May 4, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. This will be our third and final Open House of the school year. This Open House will be primarily over Zoom by teacher appointment. You may also schedule an in-person visit with your student’s teacher, if you prefer an in-person visit rather than Zoom. More details to come around the open house.
We have drop-in academic support on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30pm to 3:45pm in room 216. This will be recurring until the end of the school year. Please have your student come by room 216, if they need support in any academic subject.

LEHS: Today, close to dismissal, the school went on Secure and Hold. We had a student with a medical emergency. Once the ambulance arrived at the building, the school went off of Secure and Hold. Students were dismissed approximately at 12:40pm today.

Yesterday morning, the school called an ambulance for a student who was sick. Lynn English High School consistently practices emergency procedures to support all students and staff members.
Yesterday afternoon, we received text messages of a possible threat to the school. We investigated the claims, immediately, in collaboration with the Lynn Police Department. It was determined that the threats were false. Student and staff safety is at the forefront of our work at Lynn English High School.

ELA MCAS: Week of March 27, 2023
This week there will be adjustments to the schedule because of the ELA MCAS.
Tuesday March 28, 2023: Day 1 of the ELA MCAS (reverse half-day for all non-test takers):
7:45am: All Test takers report to school
11:30am-12:15pm: Lunch for all students (optional)
12:15pm-12:30pm: Homeroom for all students (9-12) (test takers will also follow the schedule below, after completing their test)
12:30pm-1:30pm: Block E
1:30pm-2:30pm: Block F
2:30pm: Dismissal
Students in the Life Skills program will attend school for regular hours during MCAS testing days.
Wednesday March 29, 2023: Day 2 of the ELA MCAS (asynchronous day for non-test takers)

Junior Prom Announcement:
The Class of 2024 will be hosting their Junior Prom at Spinelli’s in Peabody on Friday, April 28th from 7-10pm. The theme is “A Night in Paris” and looks to be shaping up to be a great time! The cost of tickets is $65 per person.

The National Honor Society is planning the following upcoming events:
1. Recruiting new students for the talent show (May 6th)
The NHS Club is supporting the Drama club to recruit students for the Talent Show in May.

NHS members will be collaborating with Epilepsy Foundation and Tywephony foundation to donate books for a Book Drive (April 1st -May 15th). The epilepsy foundation will send these books to different parts of the world.

4-Day Rule:
Lastly, I wanted to bring to your attention the 4-day rule that is implemented by the School Committee. Within the rule, if a student has 4 of more Unexcused Absences, the student will receive a D- for their courses. If your student is absent from school, please have our student bring a note to their homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher will then provide the note to your student's Vice Principal. The Vice Principal will review the note and determine if the absence will be excused.
Below are some recurring updates around daily attendance for students:
Homeroom is mandatory for all students. Homeroom is from 7:45am to 8:00am.
Students who are late will enter the building through the Lincoln Foyer to receive a late pass.
Absent calls and text messages are sent to families at 9:30am. If a student comes to school after 9:30am, a call or text message will be sent to the family.
If you received an absence text or call in error, please email your student’s Vice Principal.

Good Evening:
I am writing to inform you that there was a non-school related incident of violence that took place several hours after school off-campus.
The incident took place close by to the school campus and was heard by the athletes practicing in the fields/courts behind the school.
Lynn Police responded to the incident and investigated.
In an abundance of caution, practices for Lynn English athletic teams were stopped and students were sent home.
Clinicians will be available at the school tomorrow for any student that would like to speak with a clinician.
Student and staff safety is always at the forefront of our work as a school and district.

We will have some slight changes to our MCAS schedule for this week.
Tomorrow (March 15, 2023), we will have our regularly scheduled Math MCAS Retest Day. Tomorrow, students in the 9th grade will work from home asynchronously. Students in all other grades will report to school.
On Thursday March 16, 2023, we will have the second day of the Math MCAS Retest. Students in the 12th grade will work from home asynchronously. Students in all other grades will report to school.
All students taking the Math MCAS Retest will come to school tomorrow and Thursday.
All students in our Life Skills program will report to school on the MCAS days.

Tuesday, March 14th, is the first day of the Math MCAS Retest Exam. Students in the 12th grade will work from home asynchronously (Tuesday) on Schoology.
Wednesday March 15th is the second day of the Math MCAS Retest Exam. Students in the 9th Grade will work from home asynchronously (Wednesday) on Schoology.
All students in the Life Skills program will attend school during MCAS testing days.
For students completing work asynchronously, there will be work available for each class on Schoology. Students are required to complete work for each class. Period attendance for students working at home asynchronously will be based on their completion of work in each class.

This morning three police cars were parked outside of LEHS.
LEHS administration met with the Lynn Police Department to look into some possible suspicious activity.
After reviewing the activity and meeting with the school administration, the Lynn Police Department departed from LEHS.
LEHS works directly with the Lynn Police Department to ensure the safety of all members of the LEHS community.

I wanted to inform families of the upcoming dates for the MCAS exam in March.
For next week, March 8, 2023 and March 9, 2023, we will have the ELA MCAS Retest exam.
On March 8th students in the 9th Grade will work from home, asynchronously, on Schoology. All other grades will report to school.
On March 9th students in the 11th Grade will work from home, asynchronously, on Schoology. All other grades will report to school.
For students who are taking the ELA Retest, they will be provided with their testing location this week.
