The linkages between terrorism and organized crime are an issue of growing concern for the international community. Every continent is affected by both crime and terrorism, but, in the Americas, the nexus has become intimately related, profound, and widespread. This Side-Event, co-organized by UNICRI, OAS and CTED and sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations, seeks to further explore these linkages in the Americas. During the event, UNICRI and OAS will share findings from their joint research on the nexus in Latin America that describes the relevant historical, political and social context and presents case studies that clearly illustrate the interconnected and interdependent nature of criminal and terrorist actions in the region.
