This event is for those who want to be involved with engaging with children in high risk areas to give them a connection to their larger community. The students of Church Farm School will become the mentors (via a pen pal system) for children (K-5) of Darby. On January 21st, the mentors will meet their mentees after two months of correspondence. At this event the Villanova basketball team will do drills with kids; there will be mentor/mentee reading sessions where younger kids will read Sit-In: How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting Down by Andrea Davis Pinkney and older kids will read The Words of Martin Luther King Jr. by Coretta Scott King; and a large picture of Dr. King will be created with the kids. The event will close with reading of prayers created by the children. For more information, contact Canon Toneh Smyth, firstname.lastname@example.org, (267) 592-9938. Donations of coats and books are needed.
