It’s all about routines during the school year.
Start out by setting the basic framework in place.
For example, to create a good school night routine, think about the end point: What time does everyone need to be in bed to get enough sleep? Then work backwards from there, thinking about time for homework, dinner, chores, relaxing, or other things that are important for your family life.
To sketch out the basic structure for routines, print a granular timeline for the time period. You can list all the things that need to fit into the routine and see how much time you have for each one. Taking time to put down it down on paper helps you see where transitions need to happen, when there's too much going on, or how you can simplify or adjust to make things easier.
Once you have routines solidified, add them to the family calendar or hang up a handy printout of each one in a visible place. It helps to have reminders and a structure to follow as you re-establish the school year rhythms.
