This course is a good introduction to calligraphy for beginners and non-calligraphers. And, for those more experienced, new techniques will be learned. Students will learn to become proficient with the tools. We will cover at least 5 wonderful calligraphic alphabets and the skills to create endless variations. Included in this course will be the Neuland and Cuneiform alphabets and an alphabet invention of my own called Carrioka. These are easily learned and will give the students experience in how to handle the calligraphy pen which creates the thick and thin strokes that make beautiful writing. We will use the skills we learn to create some fun and useful projects. This class is open to all levels of experience – something for everyone and everyone will be successful. Non-calligraphers and those with more experience will find joy in this multitude of letterforms and their variations. Each participant will receive exemplars and samples from Carrie. Carrie will also provide feedback on homework practice.
