Please note that Pinellas Chapter meetings now begin at 6:30 p.m.
“Native” is a relative term. Moving native species outside their ecological ranges can cause problems such as hybridization, loss of genetic diversity, and horticultural issues. Shirley Denton, a plant ecologist with Cardno, a Suncoast Chapter member, and a former president of FNPS, will speak on "Can I Grow It Here? The implications of growing native plants outside their natural ranges.”
In 2018, FNPS presented Shirley with its Mentor Award in recognition of her service and dedication, and for her infinite patience and generosity in sharing her expertise, time, and talents with the Society and our members. Her photos of native plants and native plant communities (all 12,909 of them) can be viewed on her website, www.shirleydenton.com/
The public is welcome to participate in all activities of the Pinellas Chapter.
