The side-event, being organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, and Keystone Human Services International, intends to shine a light on some of the critical issues around transition away from institutions in action. It will also cover current challenges and opportunities, and highlight success stories including Keystone’s work in Moldova in partnership the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The side-event will:
Draw from a diversity of experiences particularly from Central and Eastern Europe and the Global South to highlight the need for a lifespan approach
Highlight successful examples of transitioning away from institutions
Collectively identity key action points to advance deinstitutionalization and operationalize Article 19
Explore how deinstitutionalization and care reform play a key role in building family and community resilience, social cohesion and sustainable development
Identify ways in which deinstitutionalization principles be embedded in the global discourse around the SDGs and post-2030 development agenda
