A Flag Book consists of opposing flaps or “flags” that showcase contrasting or cohering images. This stunning structure was created by Hedi Kyle and has infinite possibilities. Pages can be read individually or all at once when the concertina spine is stretched to its fullest. Students are encouraged to bring images on lightweight papers (e.g. magazines) for collage. All levels welcome!
First session: Students will look at samples to gain an understanding of the structure; fold the concertina; glue flags into the folds; and consider collage ideas.
Homework: Finish flags.
Second session: Students will finish flags as needed; trim boards to size; cover boards with paper and/or book cloth; attach boards to spine/flags; and glue down endsheets.
Location/Venue: Online with San Francisco Center for the Book (SFCB)
