A message from the Town Administrator on Tuesday, April 21, 2020:
Good evening Nahant residents, this is Tony Barletta, Town Administrator.
Since March 26th, almost a month ago, Nahant has had twenty seven (27) confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
Seventeen (17) of these cases have resided in the Jesmond Nursing Home.
And unfortunately, we have lost three (3) Nahant residents to this deadly virus.
Again I ask you to keep the families and friends of these residents in your hearts, thoughts and prayers.
The staff at the Jesmond Nursing Home as well as Nahant’s first responders are putting their lives on the line each and every day to protect the health and well-being of others - so we thank them for their dedicated service.
Tonight I want to remind you that we all have a part to play in battling the Coronavirus.
I know that after almost a month of this, and as the nice weather rolls in, it is especially difficult to stay home and distance oneself from others.
However, it is now more important than ever to follow the guidelines of the CDC to help prevent further transmission of the Coronavirus.
Many other countries experienced a second spike of cases because they relaxed too soon.
I am urging all residents to wear a mask whenever you are in public and especially when you enter the few essential businesses that remain open in Town - You are required to do so when you enter an essential business in Lynn and Swampscott.
For residents traveling into Massachusetts, the Governor has issued an order that requires you to quarantine within your home for fourteen (14) days. If you need assistance shopping for essential goods, please let us know by calling our covid-19 hotline at 781-771-2121.
Today, the Governor announced that all schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year.
The Johnson School will continue to offer free lunches on scheduled school days to all student residents of Nahant - that includes pre-school to high school students – Masks must be worn when picking up your lunches.
The Anchor Food pantry in Swampscott is also providing free food for Nahant families.
Information about either of these services can be found on nahantcovid19.com
Activities to consider while social distancing include online ebooks, music, movies and more being offered through the Nahant Public Library website at nahantlibrary.org
Due to the Coronavirus, our Annual Town Elections have been postponed to Saturday, June 20, 2020 and our Annual Town Meeting has been postponed to Saturday, June 27, 2020.
Thank you and stay well.
