Hannah Frank's father Charles Frank arrived in Glasgow in 1905, one of many thousands of Jewish people who travelled from Russia at the turn of the century, via the port of Hamburg. Some went on to America, but many stayed to make a new life in Scotland. The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre, based in the historic Garnethill Synagogue on Hill Street is dedicated to collecting and preserving material relating to the Jewish experience in Scotland over the past 200 years.
The speaker Harvey Kaplan is Director of the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre and has spoken all over the world about Scottish Jewry. His talk will link the story of Hannah Frank and her family with the wider story of Jewish emigration at the turn of the last century.
