Join XR Scotland as we protest three major insurance companies demanding they stop insuring fossil fuel projects. This act of civil disobedience is part of the Insure Our Future campaign week of action happening in major cities across the UK.
Insurance is the Achilles heel of the global fossil fuel industry. It's what gives companies such as Shell, BP and Exxonmobil the confidence to drill as the planet burns - by covering their operations against financial losses when things go wrong.
Without insurance, major oil and gas projects would not be able to operate.
Just 20 companies insure 70% of fossil fuel projects.
Howden is one of the UK insurance industry's Masters of Greenwash. They loudly and publicly trumpet their commitment to 'sustainability' - while quietly expanding the parts of their business that insure the fossil fuel crooks to keep digging and drilling for climate-wrecking oil, gas and coal.
After the protest, we will head to Quakers Meeting House, 38 Elmbank Crescent, for a warm vegan meal and community discussion.
