The slotted tape binding is a contemporary adaptation of the historic paper case binding, also known as the limp vellum binding, that was prominent throughout Europe during the late-Medieval period. In this binding, sections are sewn on supports that are laced through a limp or semi-limp cover to provide a simple and durable non-adhesive attachment. This structure is easily adaptable and can work well with as little as two sections, making it an ideal structure for artists' books and/or sketchbooks.
Students in this class will be provided with a descriptive handout and materials list in advance of the class to allow students to bind along with the instructor during the demonstration.
This is a online class. Information about participating by zoom will be sent to all participants in advance. We encourage you to enroll early so you can gather the materials and supplies and work along during the class.
