A virtual gallery talk with Salzberg resident KERI MIKI-LANI SCHROEDER - The Dusky Seaside Sparrow Project
Keri Miki-Lani Schroeder’s Salzberg Residency was extended an extra year as a result of the pandemic project, but she is about to wrap things up. As she does, she's ready to show it to us virtually and tell us about the experience. Her creative project for the residency follows the tragic tale of the dusky seaside sparrow, and here, she'll be discussing the complicated history of and connections between this extinct Floridian bird, Cape Canaveral, wildlife conservation groups, and Disneyworld. Her year-long creative journey to bring the book to fruition involved visiting the last dusky seaside sparrow to perish, interviewing ornithologists, and reflecting on the ways in which humans utilize and impact the environment.
