With over half of the global population living in urban areas, the battle for human rights and sustainable development will be won or lost in cities. In spite of the opportunities of urbanization for inclusion, the reality is that the urban era is not accessible for everybody.
Current global challenges are disrupting local governments' capacity to respond to the needs of all people. By 2030, over 2 billion persons with disabilities and older persons will be living in cities, and 60% of the land projected to become urban is yet to be built. It is therefore imperative to strengthen capacity-building in cities to advance a decade of action and delivery for inclusive sustainable development.
This session commemorates the second-year anniversary of the Cities For All Global Compact and focuses on the innovative tools and partnerships to accelerate the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda.
