Leaders: Satch Ludington (satch@cascadians.org), Crystal Martin (crystalmartindo@gmail.com)
Leave: 8:00 A.M @ Chesterley Park parking lot or 9:00 from the trailhead (see below)
Kloochman rock is a prominent rock formation and Cascadians' favorite at the east end of Lake Rimrock. It's a relatively short hike involving some intermediate scrambling, which means you will have to use both hands and feet. No technical climbing gear is required, but a helmet and gloves are recommended. In addition, you will need to be sure footed and comfortable with some exposure.
We will be taking the Southwest Route described in Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide on page 75 of the Second Edition. Total distance from trailhead to the summit is one mile, with 600' ascent and 250' descent to the top. We will summit, have lunch on the top, and return. Bring day pack and 13 essentials. Helmets and leather gloves are recommended.
Crystal Martin will be leading the drive from the Chesterley Park parking lot at 8:00 A.M., and I will be meeting at the trailhead and leading the climb out from the trailhead at 9:30 A.M. Participants may meet at either place.
LATE BREAKING NOTE: I will be meeting at the Chesterley Park parking lot after all, not at the trailhead. If you go straight to the trailhead, we will meet you there between 9:00 A.M and 9:15 A.M.
To get to the trailhead, head west on highway 12 toward Rimrock. Turn left onto Tieton (Reservoir) Road 22 miles after the 410 "Y". Go 1.9 miles and turn left on the NF-570 road at 46.629620, -121.084130. Go 2.8 miles and turn right on NF-1201 at 46.641714, -121.070538. Go 1.3 miles and park on the side of the road at 46.62962, -121.08413. Routes are below.
