We are a team of researchers from the FIXING THE FUTURE project at the University of Edinburgh. We are interested in the ‘right to repair’ and how it could be used to improve longevity of consumers’ electronics.
Smart devices such as smartwatches, phones, and speakers are increasingly popular but tend to be short-lived and expensive to fix, then end up sitting on a shelf unused or even thrown away, ultimately polluting the planet.
We are interested in speaking to you about this topic.
We want to learn from and listen to your own views and experiences.
We will be visiting for a 90-minute workshop and would like you to come along to chat with us.
The plan is to:
· Provide a short overview of our project.
· Hear stories you have had with getting broken electronics fixed (or not).
· Discuss what you think the ‘right to repair’ is and what it should do.
· To discuss the law, what it is getting it right or what needs to be done differently.
We will be running this as a research workshop, where we will record discussions
with your consent. We will compensate for your time with a £15 shopping voucher. We look forward to seeing you for this fun and engaging discussion.
