Why persuasion matters
The power of persuasion is one we all crave at some point. Indeed, according to a survey carried out in the United States, even non-sales professionals spend 40% of their time trying to persuade other people to help or work with them. Yet, however ingenious our idea or noble our intention, if we need the support of other people to make it a reality, then we need to be able to present that idea in a way they will find persuasive.
About this workshop
In this workshop, we will be looking at different techniques for persuading live audiences in a public debate and then putting them into practice in a series of test debates.
Public debates are a fantastic platform to hone those powers of persuasion because they require us to make an argument for something in front of a live audience, who don't hold back when their turn comes to speak and vote for the team they agree with the most. Hence, by learning how to debate, we learn how to persuade.
Perhaps more importantly, though, we learn what techniques others use to persuade us when they are trying to avoid proper scrutiny or smear people who disagree with them, enabling us to hold them to account and examine the substance of the argument.
What you will learn
About your trainers
Who this workshop is for
People who care about giving good advice. This workshop is for you to ensure you are able to present that advice in a way that is both compelling and easy to understand, so that you are given the fair hearing you deserve.
Anyone who finds they are easily taken in by people who play on their emotions to win them over, instead of presenting the hard evidence they need to hear, and want to know how they are doing it, so they can guard against it in future.
Who this workshop is NOT for
Anyone who simply want to know how to get others to do what they want, regardless of the consequences. This is not persuasion, but manipulation, and this workshop is designed to help people realise when someone is trying to pull the wool over their eyes.
Lunch can be purchased at the venue, but is not included in the price of the ticket.
