The storage book was designed by renowned book artist and conservator Hedi Kyle to hold thin materials or low-relief objects within the pages. It pairs a concertina spine with double-thick pages to accommodate contents which are viewed through window cut-outs. In this workshop, participants will learn how to make a storage book with all of the bells and whistles. Each page of the book will explore a different option for housing and displaying, beginning with simple single-sided items and developing in complexity to include double-sided items, floating items, and removable inserts that can hold items without having to permanently alter or affix them. Also known as the conservation album, this structure is an ideal way to both protect and showcase memorabilia, keepsakes, photographs, prints, or drawings. Even without a pre-existing collection of items to store, it is a great format for simply experimenting with light, translucency, and layering of collaged elements to create your own artwork in the book form.
