This session explored the recent experience of uprising, assemblies and constitution making in Chile, the work of Trust the People in England (and beyond) on resourcing community assemblies, and on our experience in Grassroots to Global of working towards a more relational approach in politics in Scotland and of our attempts to reach out internationally.
Our speakers are:
Ezio will speak about the estallido/uprising in Chile, and its ongoing effects on enduring/emerging/eruptive forms of decision-making. The push for the creation of an Ecological Constitucion - itself a fraught, but compelling, idea and process. One of many possible ways in which political futures in Chile (and beyond) might continue to build on diverse forms of imagination, desperation, collaboration, and determination that have fueled the 'uprising' (and have driven political engagement before, and since, October 2019).
Paul will speak about the awareness raising and upskilling of a population regarding deliberative methods that Trust the People have been working on over the past 12 months.
Justin and Eva will speak about Grassroots to Global's thinking-moving-into-action on relational democracy and its work connecting internationally with others who are looking for ways to address the deep need to respect diversity and autonomy within bottom up democratic initiatives, while also seeing the need to connect across our differences to collectively find ways to address the global crises that we're facing.
