Workshop Title: Active Learning Tools
Category: Learning Styles and Active Learning
Room: CAPE 101
Recommended Prerequisites: none
Description:
Clickers have long been the “go to” tool for actively engaging students in classroom lectures and/or discussions. This workshop will explore 3 other tools – all free to students and teachers – that can perform some of the same functions as the clickers without the expense to the student. The tools explored are Kahoot, Plickers, and Poll Everywhere.
This session is based on the principles of active learning. The methods we will use are designed to increase participation, enliven learning, deepen retention, and encourage application.
You will be asked a lot of questions, urged to take a stab at an answer, explore, and try things out. You will also work, at times, with others and will be asked to test yourself periodically to see for yourself what you have learned and what skills you possess.
At all times, this session will be guided by the idea that it’s not what I tell you that counts; it’s what you take away.
