In this presentation, I will reflect on my acculturation journey, as a practitioner, a clinical supervisor, and an educator in counselling psychology, navigating the altogether migration to two-dimensional human encounters on the screen during the COVID-19 crisis. I will focus on how disembodied counsellor-client interaction and multicultural nuances that are unique to the setting of online counselling greatly challenge the culture of counselling practice and training, which has been constructed within the context of body-to-body encounters. In face of our world’s movement to the digitalization of human relationship catalyzed by the pandemic, disembodiment of counselling itself and its implications for the four pillars—theory, practice, research, and ethics—of the profession will be discussed.
