Workshop ‘Drug prevention in the Netherlands’
Jellinek is the most well-known addiction treatment institution in the Netherlands. In this workshop we will talk about the Dutch prevention policy in regards to alcohol and drug use. How do we minimize the harm that is cost by these substances in our country?
During our presentation we will inform you about the provided interventions that are focused on youth, or are mainly used by young people.
The topics that we will discuss are: research on drug use in the Netherlands and other parts of Europe, some general theory behind addiction, peer education projects, a national project to prevent drug use in schools and the drug test service. We will also focus on questions like: What makes an intervention successful? What is the national policy in regards to harm reduction? How do we make sure our interventions connect with the life of young people?
Short assignments and movies are included in order to present an interactive workshop.
Ponente:
Evelien Mettivier Meijer – I am 29 years old, prevention worker and researcher at Jellinek in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I studied psychology and criminology and graduated on a study on use of new psychoactive substances among outgoing youths in Berlin. As a prevention worker my focus lies on students and other young people who are involved in parties and festivals.
