11.00 - 13.30: Morning masterclass
13.30 - 14.30: Lunch break
14.30 - 16.30: Mock debate
16.30 - evening: Post-workshop social
The best place to start when learning how to debate for the first time is to ask why we do it in the first place and when it is (and is not) appropriate to settle a question by debating it.
This workshop will show you how to put in place rules and standards that will allow you to talk about difficult subjects with people who think differently without those debates escalating into fights - in other words how to disagree without being disagreeable.
You will also learn about the 3Ps of applied debating - Philosophy Position Presentation that will help you to make coherent arguments and build persuasive cases. Most importantly of all, you will have plenty of opportunities to practice the skills you are learning with other people and speak in a mock debate.
