DESCRIPTION:
This webinar series will focus on how we look at “inclusion” and how we define current practices that seem inclusive but may be problematic. Participants will learn what it means to design inclusive lessons for a range of students, explore ideas on how to be creative for students who need more support, how to use strategies for virtual inclusion, and collaborate with families and paraprofessionals.
Presenter: Dr. Paula Kluth is a consultant, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners. Paula is a former special educator who has served as a classroom teacher and inclusion facilitator. Her professional interests include differentiating instruction and inclusive schooling.
Session 1 (February 8): Inclusive Schools: The Big Picture - The first webinar will include creating an inclusive identity, “radical” role sharing, and understanding inclusion as a process. Three powerful strategies for virtual inclusion will also be shared with participants.
Session 2 (February 16): Inclusive Classrooms: Looking at Lessons - This session is filled with tricks, tips, hacks, and teacher-tested ideas. It will be centered on inclusive lessons and provide suggestions for adapting work, building community, and collaborating to meet student needs. Special topics of the session will include UDL, community building, and active and collaborative learning. The session will also feature a glittery microphone, a group Twist contest, and huge emojis on sticks.
Session 3 (February 22): Inclusive Planning: Ideas for Individual Students - The final session will look at how to support individual students in K-12 inclusive classrooms. Participants will explore ideas that move beyond schools and classrooms and focus on individuals who may require a little more creativity in planning. Participants will examine how to use a visions tool, self-determination supports, and peer supports.
