Leading to the 20th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Person with disabilities, the UN CRPD Committee in partnership with UN Women, with support/co-sponsorship from Women Enabled International, Permanent missions to the UN (France and others), to host a side event. The event will have the following objectives:
• To launch the development of and the call for submissions for the Guidelines on the duty of States parties to address multiple and intersectional forms of discrimination against women and girls with disabilities;
• To explore intersectionality as a core concept guiding the development of the Guidelines and imperative to States’ implementation of the CRPD;
• To explore linkages and synergies with Beijing plus 30, gender equality and Disability Inclusion agenda;
• To raise awareness about the persistent human rights violations faced by women and girls with disabilities, nearly 20 years after the adoption of the CRPD.
