There are many possible statuses any job can have, and at any given time everyone needs to know which status is current so they can take the appropriate action. A required custom choice field provides all the status options. Both the coordinator and the rep can change and view the most recent updated status for any open job.

An educational organization provides music studios which can be reserved. To ensure that everyone can have time to use the shared studios, they want to keep bookings under a certain timeframe. There's not a way to prevent this directly, but a required custom field works as a reminder to make bookings within the allowed time:

Here's another example: these conference rooms can be reserved by anyone in the department, and are frequently used for meetings, client presentations, team sessions, and more. The building supervisors need time between each reservation to clean and set up the room as requested.
