These delightfully sized, 3.75" x 2.75" books, make charming and easy to carry sketchbooks. A cross-structure and a long & ink-stitch binding will be made in class. Beautiful handmade paper will be used for sewing supports and watercolor paper for the text blocks. The instructor will demonstrate how these books can be finished with colorful threads and interesting weaving patterns.
Materials to Bring: Optional: screw punch with 1mm punch, curved-nosed tweezers, small pliers, long dull kitchen knife/slicing blade, small triangle.
Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: pencil, bone folder, utility knife, awl, scissors, dividers, metal straight-edge.
Pre-requisite: Introduction to Bookbinding or similar bookbinding experience.

Instructor and bio: Judith Serebrin’s books and sculptures have been exhibited widely and have been collected by libraries, museums and individuals in the United States and abroad. She has been making limited-edition and unique books from etchings, monotypes, watercolors and drawings since 1989. Her work has been featured in many books about Artist’s Books and contemporary ceramics. She is the recipient of the 2016 Isaac Anolic Jewish Book Arts Award.
