Rediscovered by Hedi Kyle and attributed to the Belgians, the Secret Belgian is a simple and elegant structure to add to any binder's repertoire. In this structure, the secret lies in how the cover is attached to the text block -- it is woven in after the text block is sewn. This binding also has the added benefit of being able to lie flat, which makes it an ideal structure for a journal or sketchbook. Students in this workshop can expect to learn text block preparation and sewing, cover weaving, and secondary sewing and will leave with a completed and visually unique book. No previous binding experience necessary.
