In this workshop, students will experiment with processes of natural dyeing and ecoprinting on cloth and paper. Working from locally sourced plants and environmentally sustainable materials, we'll focus first on proper methods for mordanting and dyeing, as well as how to shift colors and print from plants. Additionally, we'll explore techniques for rusting, bleaching, and creating resists using natural indigo. Finally, we'll use the materials we have dyed to create beautiful, unique books. We'll back our dyed cloth to turn it into bookcloth and create an elegant softcover book using the materials we have created to highlight the subtle beauty of the dyed cloth and paper.
