Explore new techniques that will transform words into art. We will examine several 20th century visual artists whose work incorporates text and text-like elements. Through a series of exercises based on their masterworks, we will work on small format paper and combine drawing materials and paint to create richly layered pieces that fuse text, color and image. This process will enable you to add greater depth, new meaning, and possibility to your artistic practice. You will complete this class with fresh ideas, a broader perspective and a hand-constructed portfolio to house your own word art.
