EXPLORATION OF GLASS BEADS AND METAL (GATLINBURG, TN)
In this workshop students learn how to make glass beads appear like stones, quartz, and semi-precious stones and how to wrap the beads with wire in unique and different ways. Participants will take their beads to the next level using wire and scrap metal and incorporate them into unique and beautiful works of art. Techniques explored include shaping, blowing glass shards and exploring silver foil and silver glass. Students must have knowledge of making glass beads and working with a torch.

Instructor: Libby Leuchtman has made glass beads for over 21 years. She owns a glass studio and is the director of flameworking at the Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis, Missouri where she developed the teaching curriculum. Her beads have been collected by the Kobe Glass Museum and the ISGB President’s Collection at Corning. Leuchtmann has taught at Arrowmont, Snow Farm, Pilchuck, Pittsburgh Glass and several glass studios throughout the U.S., and has been published in several books.
