Book & Paper Arts Workshops
ETCH-IT, FOLD-IT, STITCH-IT, ENAMEL-IT. REPEAT! (GATLINBURG, TN)
Students will begin by learning the process of salt-water etching ferrous and non-ferrous sheet metal to create exciting imagery and patterns for small-scale objects or jewelry. Participants will explore three-dimensional possibilities with their etched metal using “score and fold,” “tab and fold,” or simple “stitching” techniques before applying subtle layers of vitreous enamel. This class focuses on methods of achieving simple forms and color, although participants will leave with a clear understanding of the traditional enameling technique of Champlevé’. Open to all skill levels.

Instructor: Alicia Jane Boswell is a studio jeweler, enamelist and artist/educator. She was the 2016/17 Artist-in-Residence in Jewelry and Metalsmithing at the Armory Art Center. She received her MFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from UMASS Dartmouth and has been a visiting instructor at arts/crafts centers around the U.S. and internationally. Her work is in private/public collections including the Enamel Arts Foundation and the Lace Museum. She is also a former Artist-in-Residence at Arrowmont.
