Please join us as we welcome Jim Croft, master bookbinder specializing in Medieval style binding. He will be at the BARN teaching a variation of the long stitch binding that he calls Jazz Long Stitch Binding with Wood Boards. This is a rare opportunity to learn from an internationally known bookbinder and craftsman.
Traditionally, the long stitch binding has often held up very well for hundreds of years. However, their spines are quite stiff. In this binding, textile will be used, making a book that can open easily and flat.
You will make a book with genuine old growth western red cedar salvaged from burn piles and hemp thread and hemp textiles. You''ll also master the Medieval long stitch binding as well. You'll leave with a wonderful book, and the skills to make more.
Please feel free to bring a bag lunch. BARN has a kitchenette with refrigerator to store your lunch in.
