Portable Architecture (New York, NY)
A box or cube can be divided into four equal parts, diagonally. With this in mind, students will learn to construct these divided parts from scratch. Each part will be connected to a baseboard with simple hinges. This connection allows for various architectural configurations. Each section of the divided cube has an open cavity that will be used as a small stage to display found objects of the student’s choice. The walls of the structure will then be covered by various papers. The instructor will also incorporate the creation of a document storage box, which houses a small accordion booklet. In addition, students will construct a portable carrying case for their creations.

Instructor: One of the Center’s alumni faculty, Kumi Korf is a printmaker and book artist whose recent work includes intaglio prints, letterpress, and structural inventions for bookbinding. Her work is included in the collections of the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Tate Library, and Getty Center Research Library, among others.
