Anyone can print a feather but printing with an etching press allows for much detail in an enriching and meditative artistic process. This is a no stress activity. Often referenced in Native American Art, a feather is a gift from spirit and a reward for achievement; a feather from a bird symbolizes flight and freedom.
Using inks, participants will print wild turkey feathers on 100% cotton paper or fabric. Students will design compositions using turkey feathers or various other feather varieties. In consideration of rare bird species, special care is taken in the selection of feathers. Throughout the workshop, we will discuss the significance of feathers, and the printmaking processes, paper and ink.
