Learn how to make a Chinese thread book (Zhen Xian Bao), a Chinese folk art structure made of a series of folded paper pockets and boxes. Traditionally, this has been used to hold embroidery and sewing supplies like needles, threads, and patterns. However, it can be adapted to hold many different types of flat items –ephemera, photographs, etc. The version we’ll be constructing will have 13 pockets, enclosed in a booklike cover. Time permitting, we’ll be able to decorate the pockets, using stamps, collage, or other techniques. All tools and materials provided; no bookbinding experience required.
