In this 5-Day intensive workshop students will make two versions of the articulated binding. Both versions have a round spine, a three-piece case, mosaic leather headbands and will be covered in full leather. The first two days we will make a simplified version of this binding by gluing the cover board pieces onto Japanese paper and making a full leather cover. The following three days we will make the covers with individually leather covered davey board pieces that later on will be attached in a particular way allowing incredible movement.
There will be lots of edge paring involved, but since this binding asks for almost paper-thin leather very little has to be taken out.
Students are to bring: Paring stone, Paring knife, Sharpening stone (or similar), Scalpels and scalpel blades, Cutting mat, Bone or Teflon folder, Metal ruler, Cutter (x-acto or similar), Glue brush
Instructor will provide: Paper for signatures, Paper for endsheets, Davey board for covers, Spine piece, Headband cord, Paper thin leather for headbands, Split leather, Japanese paper, Thread, Needles, Wax
