With account users, you have better security, since each user is known and uses unique calendar access via their Teamup user account.
With shareable links, you have more convenience, since no login is required.

In many cases, a combination of methods works best: For example, you might use account-based access for team members who use the calendar daily, and set up a shareable link for someone outside the organization who only needs to view certain events from time to time.
If you add someone as a user (e.g. give them account-based access) to a calendar, you don't need to give that person a calendar link as well. For security reasons, it's typically best that each user has only one way to access the calendar.
If you give someone access via calendar link, they can still create a free Teamup user account and add the link to their dashboard so it's convenient to use.
If there is a mismatch between what you expect a user to be able to see/do and what they can see/do, they might be using a link to access the calendar rather than using their account-based access. You can deactivate any calendar links that may have been shared in the past, and instruct this user to log in to their Teamup account and open the calendar from their dashboard.
